Stay tuned for CBC interview!!

5/23/2014

My family and I were uptown in Whitehorse this morning trying to get "The McDonalds" into bookstores and gift shops. A friend had mentioned that CBC was always doing interviews with local artists, and that they would probably like to do an interview... What a great way to get word about "The McDonalds" out there!!

So as we were walking along the store fronts, we happened to spot the CBC studio. Well, what did I have to lose? The worst thing they could do was say no. So I popped in quickly to let them know who I was and what I was doing. Not even 5 minutes later I was speaking with a CBC producer, and we have lined up an interview for this afternoon at 2!! The interview will be taped, and broadcasted early next week!!

You never know until you ask!

We are headed North to sell "The McDonalds!"  My husband, son and I will be loaded up and leaving Fort Nelson this weekend to spend just over a week in the Yukon, and will be stopping at all the gift shops and museums in between to try and get our book on their shelves!!
We plan to spend the weekend with my great-aunties at Mile 442, something that seems that we just do not do enough of!!  From there, we plan to camp at the Hotsprings, Watson Lake, Teslin, then off to Whitehorse. Hopefully that gives us enough time to do our selling, and to enjoy ourselves!  I can't wait to have some quality family time!!   We will be staying in Whitehorse over the weekend of the 25th to attend the Cystic Fibrosis walk, with our friend Mike and his son Seamus!
If you are between Fort Nelson and Whitehorse, or just a short jaunt away, and would like your very own copy of "The McDonalds" (retails for $63.00) please find me on facebook and let me know!  We will do our very best to make sure you get your copy, and I would love to sign it for you!
I can't wait for this exciting adventure!!

A good selling day today, got rid of a total of 40 books so far today!!   Still have to give Wonowon and Buckinghorse another shot, then home to load up the camper! May 17, Dave, David and I will be Northbound!!! (My favourite direction!). Hoping to do well up there, I have already had quite a few requests.

Can't wait to be camping, and selling history to anyone willing to listen!!

My travelling partners did great, and my boy just loves to help! Doesn't get any better than that!

Road trip!!!

We are on the road, selling to anyone who will take us between Mile 0 and Mile 300 of the Alaska Highway!!!   We left Fort Nelson at 7 this morning and have made a few sales so far!

In Wonowon parking lot, we ran into Liza Wolf, who bought 2 books! Thank you so much Liza!! We made our way out to the Doig Reserve to present Cheif Norman Davis with his copy of the book, as he and his band were one of my wonderful sponsors. I sold one book there, which is great, since they do not have a store for me to sell wholesale to. And I have to say that I was so impressed with Doig River First Nation. The band office is beautiful, the community is so clean, and everyone was speaking in their own language! Everyone was so friendly, it was such a pleasure just to be there! A big thank you to the Doig for their wonderful hospitality. Thinking their yearly rodeo is now on my list of things to do!!

Once we made it to Fort St John, the FSJ Museum bought a case to sell! Once we got to Dawson this evening, Bill's News purchased a few as well!!

We are doing well so far, hoping to move a few more cases tomorrow! We will also be heading out to West Moberly First Nation to present Cheif Roland Wilson with his copy, as they were another of my wonderful sponsors. They have a store or two along the way, so we will be hitting those as well!! Unfortunately Cheif Lynette Tsakoza from Prophet River First Nation was unavailable this week, so I will be making a special trip to see her next week.

A big thank you to my parents, who are chauffeuring me around! And David is being such a good boy, I am so proud of him! Looking forward to a good day of selling tomorrow!!

Third best day of my LIFE!!!

First being the day my son was born, and the second being the day I was lucky enough to marry my best friend.

This is surreal!! 2013 was a year I completely dedicated to working towards this and making it happen (on most nights and weekends anyway lol). I can only hope that I have done enough and worked hard enough to make my elders and ancestors proud.

We are officially on our way home! I cannot wait to share this book and our family history (or at least a small peice of it) with anyone and everyone willing to listen.

Ready to pick up the books!!

Well today we got the GM serviced and picked up our sea can (not to be confused with C can as I was corrected today lol). We are officially ready to pick up our precious cargo!!

So we are having a half early night (first one all week) and getting ready for a long day tomorrow. We will rise at a half decent hour and head out to Altona, which is about 1 1/2 hours from Winnipeg. We are due to be there around mid afternoon, and if we are a bit early, my Friesens contact, Ian McKinnon has offered us a tour of the printing facility! I am quite excited to see where it all happens. I was also offered to be there as my book was being printed, and sign off on the pages as they were completed; unfortunately I just did not have the time to do this.

After the books are loaded, we will be hitting the road and trying to get as far as possible! I sure miss home (snow and all!), my son and husband, and I just can't wait to get it home and start selling these peices of history!!!!

Stay tuned, for the next blog, I will have books in hand!!!!

Arrived in Manitoba

We have arrived in Winnipeg!! A dreadfully boring drive, we seen 2 deer, 3 frogs and countless geese, loons, ducks, ravens and crows. Definitely can't wait to be west bound, hopefully to leave the wind behind us!

Off to get some regular maintenance done on the truck, and hopefully pick up the C can tomorrow.   We decided to pick up a C can to ensure the books will arrive nice and dry.

We plan to leave Winnipeg fairly early Friday morning to travel to Altona, where the book is being printed and bound. From there, we will turn around and back across the prairies.

And we weren't able to get any good pictures today, as the rain refused to let up. So, I thought I would share one of the videos I was sent from home, showing me what I was missing. So looking forward to hugging and holding my handsome little guy. The old saying is true, "absence makes the heart grow fonder."

My first time in Saskatchewan

32 hours and just over 1600 kilometers after leaving Fort Nelson, we have arrived in Saskatoon.  Found a beautiful hotel to spend the night in!  Looking forward to some relaxation and getting some chores done (Thank you cards, spreadsheets, blogs lol).
Good weather so far, although I can't wait to get back to the mountains!  The wind is terrible!!  Only about 10 hours of travelling time, and 2 1/2 days waiting time until we pick up "The McDonalds!"
Enjoying the adventure so far, for my first time this far into the prairies.  I honestly don't plan on coming back this way, so I might as well enjoy it now!  Missing my son like crazy, but the wonderful people taking care of him are sending me videos throughout the day of his adventures, so I don't feel like I'm missing too terribly much.  Missing my husband as well, in our ten years together (this July, how time flies!) this will be the longest we have been apart.
Loving the truck stops, everything we need all in one.  Sure glad Brad's driving, I'm pretty sure I would be screwed in the dually, never mind with the goose neck on.  Pretty stoked to see the load once it's secure!  Have our own personal tour guide for tomorrow, looking forward to checking out Cabela's here in Saskatoon before we leave to Winnipeg!  That will be another first for me!
