On July 15, I arrived in Fort St John, ready to give a short presentation on the McDonald family. I also got to sign a few books for customers and meet some fantastic people!!
When I first arrived at the FSJ Museum, a gentleman was waiting outside. He soon introduced himself as Deb. Den first went north in 1948, and had met Charlie, Nellie and their children at their cabin at Gardner Creek. He explained that he went on from there to work with my grandpa Howard on the highway, and came to know the family quite well. He was not able to stay for the signing and presentation, but Deb had just seen the advertisement earlier that day, and decided to stop by to meet me. I'm so glad that he did!
I also got the chance to meet a former employer of the McDonald brothers (although I have felt like I have known you all along Maxine!). The Clark's also came over to introduce themselves. Turns out they used to run the school bus when my mother was in school. They would pick her up around Toad River and take her to Muncho Lake to attend school.
It was a nice small crowd, and I got a chance to have a small visit with everyone. The appreciation for the book that I am feeling from people is absolutely phenomenal. This whole process has been so worth it, to have people approach me and feel comfortable enough to share their own stories with me. I absolutely love it, and hope it continues for years to come!!
